Unusual Year

Post by Musky hunter » Sun Jun 16, 2019 6:30 pm

First off, $9 manhours flogging the 64 degree heavily stained water. No muskies located. A few northerns tried to make it interesting though.
Water remains high and the weed beds are about a month behind schedule. We also noticed that the usual bullfrog evening chorus has taken the month off too.
Kinda strange.

I was up Musky fishing at Black Lake for the opener and had similar results. We're facing the same conditions at the other end of the state as well. Crazy spring, crazy weather, crazy year.

20 manhours on murky, 78 degree water. Weed beds are slowly developing but contain few bait fish. Missed one musky at the boat. Fish came out of nowhere and grabbed the Top Raider as I was lifting out of the water. Pulled the lure right out of its mouth! That's a rookie mistake.
That was the only fish we saw. However, a neighbor kid did catch a 24 incher off the dock. Go figure!

32 man hours on the water with no results. However, saw 1 bald eagle, 1 osprey carrying his fish dinner home, and 2 barn owls. also some of the bullfrogs are back. All in all a fine weekend at fish camp.

:big-grin: 27 manhours fished. Friday night we had a couple of follows on the topwaters. One fish struck and was lost after a few head shakes.
Saturday the fish were hot to follow but were just window shopping.
Sunday morning my son broke the ice and landed a nice 50" class fish.
We haven't been skunked as a group in more that 15 years or so, so this weekend at least preserves the run. The water is starting to shape up so the fishing should continue to improve.

That's awesome! 50"😯 any pics? Great catch.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Incredible. Very nice pic. That is what makes hours and effort spent rewarding.

I think Gary got another nice one, or maybe a buddy of his. I'll let him tell the story.

Crew member's first musky after 12 years of trying.
We spent about a half hour tossing top waters. The fish hit as Joe was executing a figure eight at the boat. No follow, just an esox explosion.

Another fairly flat weekend. Lots of time on the water yielded just one follow. We're doing something wrong. Got to keep trying different tactics I guess.

Would anyone be able to tell me the current water temps. We have a group coming up in a couple days and wondering if the rain and all is helping with the nasty water. Thanks

Fished Indian and Oswegatchie. No sign of muskies. Unusual indeed.
