Crappies Did Not Spawn?

I have cleaned about 15 crappies over the past couple weeks and most all of them still had eggs. These were caught in deeper water which is where they typically go post spawn. The crappies also did not come to the rocky areas in my part of the lake this spring like they typically do. It seems I have heard before that if conditions aren't right that crappies can just avoid spawning for that year. So I was just wondering what anyone else's thoughts and observations have been on this.
