Got to fisherman's landing operatered by Dave Roll Sat afternoon. We were greeted by a nasty SW wind. We decided to put our Crappie quest on hols and fishe artificials for Pike (which ended up being the norm for the week). in 6 days the 3 of us boated over 50 Pike with very few under 20 inches and the biggest going about 31". The winds kept us pretty close to the cabin, we were in a 16 ft Jonboat with a 15 HP enginge. trying to get south of the bridge was a suicide mission. One of the guys in camp with a bigger boat ( Lund or something in that style) took a wave over the bow and ended up breaking his windshield.......he's lucky that was the extent of his damage.
Most of the Pike were caught in weedy bays in 6-8 FOW with in-line spinners, Rattle Traps, Perch colored swimbaits, and Perch colored Husky Jerks.

We targeted crappie on our last day. We found them in about 16 FOW on rocks and rock points. We managed to catch about 60 in a couple of hours, but only 4 keepers ( we limit ourselves to 11 inches or better). There were so many 6-9 inch fish.

The highlight of the trip was my nephew hooking into a 12.5 lb catfish on 6lb test crappie gear.......and getting him in the boat. The funny thing is on the evening trip the same thing happened again with an even bigger catfish but it pulled the hook. Both these catfish hit crappie jigs..................go figure!

All in all it was a good week of relaxation, the wind sucked but you can't have it all.

Fisherman's Land is a great place to stay and Dave and his crew make sure you need for nothing.
