trip report May 12-19

Post by bluschen » Sun May 19, 2013 10:35 pm

Arrived on the south side of the lake Sunday the 12th but the weather was not cooperating too well. With High winds and frigid temperatures we did not get the boats in until Tuesday...fishing was pretty slow to say the least and the surface temperature had fallen to 54 deg. Wednesday the lake kicked up again but it was fishable and we managed to pick up a scattering of pike and did fair on the crappie. Thursday proved to be a hard day of fishing for us again... with a few pike during the day and a decent crappie bite during the evenings (surface temp was approx 58-59 deg). Friday and Saturday were faily warm on the lake with almost no wind for a good drift for Pike but the Pike and crappie picked up in the evenings along a good crappie take along rocky portions of the islands and bays (60-62 deg surface temp). All in all it was another great trip to the lake and although the fishing was a little slower than our usual trips we still had a great time. The crappie all had eggs when cleaned so the spawn should start soon.
Be CAREFULL out there running around there is a lot of stuff floating arong from the high winds earlier in the week. About 150 yds between the south end of Bowman Island and the mainland is a partially submerged log about 10-12 inches in diameter sticking above the water line just waiting for a lower unit (or worse) several folks had placed a marker IE seat cushion to mark the log but if the water is choppy you will miss it. 8)
