Any advice for a new guy?

Post by Bugbottle » Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:12 am

My wife and I went to black lake last year for the first time. We caught a few bass and pike but we didn't do real well. We are going back this Saturday the 9th of July and will be staying at pleasant view camp again. If anyone has some pointers they could share I would appreciate any tips I could get. We release all The fish we catch, but Id sure like to release a lot more this year!
Thanks folks

weeds! find the weeds and you find bass/pike.i look for the leafy tall grass in about 4 to 6 ft. of water get to shallow and grass turns fern looking.throw senkos, rubber worms, jigs work them slow if you start getting lots of perch and bluegill hits(small taps)your in the right area.my son used floating worms over grass with some good results.top water plugs work great early morning, and just before dark.if you get cloud cover during the day throw top water we catch them all threw the day.shoals are good but they get fished hard.get yourself a good map.lots of luck let me know how you make out.A BAD FISHING IS STILL BETTER THAN A DAY OF WORK

White spinner baits in the bay behind hodgeback. Drift your self outside the weedbead, once you don't get weeds on your return drive back in and drift it out again. Great pike spot. We picked up a lot of handles but nothing bigger than 24". Also we caught fish in there on soft lizards but senkos didn't do it. Let me know if it works out for you.
Tight Lines! Harry Pikeman
