To cold to fish.

I just do not know how you people can stay out there in that kind weather and fish it is just to cold for me when it gets below 15 to 20 degrees.

Preparation, planning and equipment. That's my way.
I have an insulated fabric shelter with propane heat. A wheeler with a windshield, heated grips and throttle lever. And clothes and boots that work for me. My worst time is getting things ready, at the truck, to go out.

I know what you are talking about when i go hunting i put on a lot of clothes and good boots.

Good gear is mandatory, but without love of the sport none of you would get off the couch ( like me!! ).Truthfully, I would get into it more if I had enough vacation time to cover another hobby.

Like others have stated - you must have good cold weather gear. Just as important, the right frame of mind and a love for the sport. Once you latch onto those great Northern Pike, you're hooked for life!
Give it a try, nothing beats a hot day on the ice.

Last year our group did rather well, I got a few pike in the 7 to 8 pound range.
My largest was around 35 inches with a weight of 9 lbs 60z. I know Phil and his group got even larger pike last year!

3,4 and 5 are pretty common. We occasionally get some larger and a bit over 10 lbs.

I never liked ice fishing until I went with guys that knew what they are doing. #1. If you don't like the cold but love to fish, find someone with a two man ice hut and go along. A hut and little heater turns a rough day into a relaxing and fun filled afternoon.

Dragging equipment way out on the ice and then sitting on a bucket on a cold winter's day almost had me give it up for good, but add huts, a power auger, a vexilar, and often a 4 wheeler to haul everything, January - March is now one of one of my favorite fishing times all year.

Trust me, if you want to try it, find people that do it alot and are good at it to show you all the tricks. If you don't like it after that, it's not for you. But I warn you, if you find the right group of guys, you will find a whole new area of fishing to spend money on. This year I ended up with a vexilar, used ice hut, and Arctic Armour suit. Thank God I'm an electrician and all my friends need stuff wired or my wife would have killed me a long time ago.
