Post by CTR260 » Wed Mar 01, 2017 3:14 pm

Coming up for Pike in early May. What can I expect as far as pike activity this time of year?

Should be pretty good, in the bays, over the weeds.

May is the best time to be on the lake for Pike. As Phil said hit the bays, motor in and let the wind blow you in or out depending on the wind direction. We like to throw spoons like dare devil or Johnson silver minnow and look for weed tips, no weeds no pike. I don't know if you are familiar with the lake, May the water is high and the normal rocks that are visible in the summer are below the surface. So be careful, I have seen many lower units at camp missing major functional parts!

Great time to pike fish. Post spawn fish are ready to eat but may still be slow or picky about baits. As Bob said drift in the big bays. Try using medium size plastic swimbaits slow or hopping it on the bottom with long pauses. If your looking for a lazy day of fishing (less casting) try dead baits under a float in the same areas.

Ready for spring,
Mike

Thanks guys. Do you have any favorite areas? I've seen the "Hot Spots" map but sometimes things change. I've got a decent boat so getting from one end of the lake to the other isn't a factor.

Thanks again

look for the warmest water you can find. If one bay is just a few degrees warmer than the others it should produce better.

Good Luck,
Mike
