Long range forecast beginning Sunday is looking like the ice machine will be at work. I'm betting on 6-7 inches of good hard ice by next Thursday. Freeze up will likely be in the wee hours of tomorrow AM. We will see if that holds for 2 days then the deep freeze will be on. :big-grin:

One small spot open water on the back bay camp cam. The ice machine cometh, starting Saturday night. Looking good for some ice-fishing late next week.

So - we now have a frozen lake - again, from the view of both cams. :big-grin: December 21st - and if it holds for a week (looking a lot like it will by the weather forecast) bigmouth will be our contest winner.

Its looking good. I am glad to see there isn't a ton of snow on it. I think bigmouth has got it. he is probably watching tip ups now. :big-grin:

Not real confident in the 21st as the final freeze up date. Lots of open water near here and the wind is really churning it up right now. I'd hate to see any accumulation of snow on top of what little we have right now. Single digit temps over the weekend make me smile.

Just moved in this month and register this AM . Just watched Bigmouth catch his first fish of the day from a warm room, (which was returned) at 7:45. Never ice fished but love softwater. That's why I moved up here. May get into it when we get settled. Still unpacking AND showeling.....

Welcome ND Crazy. Hope you enjoy the site and Black Lake. Ice-fishing is a great pass-time and the equipment that is available these days can make it very pleasurable. bigmouth can be a good place to start for info - he can catch fish. :D

There is a post from yesterday just down the page, a bit giving ice conditions. You can call Chapman's Bait Shop, anytime, for an up-to-date report on the ice. He will give an honest report.

I hope that the snow you got yesterday & last night does not make water between the ice & snow. What a mess if it does.

Probably near 12" of snow and it's still coming down. It will be a mess, for sure. Best thing that could happen would be a warm-up to take the snow off the ice.
